October Favorites

October is already over, it went by so fast! I feel like not only is 2014 flying by but college is going by in the blink of an eye and before I know it I’m going to be in the real world doing grown-up stuff. October is one of my favorite months and even though it flew by, I had a great month. Anyway, let’s get started on the favorites.

#1 theSkimm

I am not someone who enjoys watching the news. It’s so depressing, after my dad went to war I hate hearing anything about the war. It’s upsetting and brings back a lot of memories. Because of that, I tend to not stay up-to-date with current events, then I found theSkimm. theSkimm is an e-mail subscription service that sends short, interesting, summaries of the most pressing events that are in the news currently. I like that they don’t give any gruesome details but give the need-to-know information. It’s become part of my morning routine, I wake up and immediately read the daily skiimm. #2 Milani’s lipstick in Sangria

I've talked about this before, but I love this lipstick so much. I love berry colors on me, but tend to stray away from dark, vampy lip colors because let’s face it…they’re intimidating. This lipstick can be used lightly to give a medium berry color to the lips or put on more heavy to give a deep berry color and I love it. I think it is so pretty on and it’s definitely going to get a lot of wear this season.

#3 Wet and Wild Nail Polish in So Berry on Trend

I’m obsessed with maroon/wine/burgundy colors this year and I want more! This nail polish is definitely in that color zone and I’m in love! It’s a matte nail color so it can be used as a matte (a matte top coat would help it last longer) or a normal top coat can be applied to make it shiny (as I like to do). It only takes two coats to get an opaque color (I used three just because) and it dries super quickly. I’m really bad about waiting for my nail polish to dry and the fact that this is fast drying is amazing. Just another reason to love it. I think I’m going to try more from Wet and Wild.

#4 Favorite Music: LIGHTS Little Machines

At the end of September LIGHTS came out with a new album! I had her other two albums and loooovvvveeee them. LIGHTS is my favorite female artist and the only female artist that I can listen to all the time and not get tired of her. I knew her album was going to be amazing but like with all new albums, especially from people I love, I’m always worried that their new album won’t be as good as their previous albums. Like with Chevelle, I love all of LIGHTS albums and loved this album right away. My favorite songs on the album are probably “Oil and Water” “Meterorite” and “How we do it”. I also pre-ordered so I got three bonus songs (unfortunately they aren’t on the actual CD :( ) I would put links to videos of the songs, but YouTube has removed the song all the videos I could find.

#5 Favorite TV-Show: Dexter

Have any of you watched Dexter? I’m on season 4 and I’ve been binge-watching every time I can. I love it. I got so mad a Dexter season 2 and then at Deborah season 3. I won’t say anything for those who have not watched it. But if you haven’t watched it, you need to. Like now. It’s amazing.

#Favorite Book: Vampire Academy or Harry Potter

I haven’t read any books that aren’t a part of a series this month, but I did finish the Vampire Academy series (gasp) and read Harry Potter Year 5. I never finish series so finishing the Vampire Academy series was a shocker to everyone who knows me. I’ve been reading that series for years, like since middle school so this series has been with me for a while and finishing it was kind of sad for me. The world has ended, but I loved the series. I enjoyed the ending and thought it ended well and I hope they continue making movies with these books. I quite enjoyed the first one. As for Harry Potter, I love Harry Potter but then who doesn’t. I haven’t read the books until now, but reading the books has made me love it more and my obsession has skyrocketed. I’m actually taking a Harry Potter class in the spring and I’m super excited for it. I’m going to read books 6 and 7 before I take the class.

What's on my phone?

Am I the only person who is super curious and love looking and seeing what people have in their purses, their drawers, and even their phones? I don’t know, but I know I love watching the what’s in my bag videos on YouTube as well as the what’s on my phone videos. I’m not an iPhone person (no offense to those who love iPhone) but I have IOS and just prefer Android over Apple. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4; this is not my first Android nor will it be my last. I’ve had an Android for a good 6 years now so I know the operating system and know the apps that I love. If you’re looking for a new phone and don’t want an iPhone, I recommend a Samsung, HTC or LG G3 phone depending on what’s important to you. Can we stop and talk about the new Galaxy Note 4? The advertisement for it is hilarious and it looks like an awesome phone.

So anyway, enough babbling, I’m going to show and talk about what’s on my phone. I won’t go through all the apps, but I will talk about my favorites. I will have pictures at the very end that show my menu so that you can see all of my apps.

Lock Screen

My Home Screen is Barcelona, Spain because I really want to go to Spain. I found the background on a travel backgrounds application (I don't remember which one, sorry)! The applications on the bottom are the most important Applications and ones that I tend to like to reach easily. So I have my phone (which also leads to contacts and what not), Snapchat, Go SMS Pro, Camera, and the App Drawer or menu. Go SMS Pro is my all-time favorite messaging application. I have been using this app the whole time I’ve had an Android and has followed me to all my phones at some point in the phone’s life. I highly recommend it, I also use the Emoji plug-in for the application as well as different themes.

Home Screen

This is the screen with my most used applications and it is not set up like a typical galaxy. At the top I have my clock, set to military time because it’s what I’m used to. The first application is Instagram which I used to use all the time but lately I haven’t been as into it. But it’s still on my home screen. My second application is Pinterest. My. Addiction. I love Pinterest, I am always killing time on it. It’s been acting up for the past two months, none of the updates have fixed the issues :( I’m hoping that soon they’ll fix the issues because this is my favorite application. The next two I have are Tumblr (another longtime favorite) and Facebook because who doesn’t have these on their phone? I love music so I have Pandora and Spotify on quick reach so I can quickly get music going if I don’t want to listen to my own. I also have my banking app (USAA), Gmail, Chrome and Gallery so I can find those easier.

Left Home Screen

These are apps I use, but not as often. The top widget it my Google Play Music for my personal music which I keep on the Google Play cloud because I only have 6 gigabytes of free memory on my phone so I need to make sure that’s saved for applications and photos. I don’t like how the stock alarm clock won’t make noise if I have my phone on vibrate or silent -__- so I downloaded the Alarm Clock Xtreme free and it works well, but I mean it’s just an alarm clock. Also, if we want to order food from on campus dining areas, we can use our phones so that is what Tapingo is for. Flixster is my favorite movie application for finding show times and I’ve tried many. I also like cheap gas so I got GasBuddy to help me find the cheapest gas in my area. I also have the Bible application which is, in my opinion, the best Bible application. The rest of the Applications are productivity applications that I don’t like going into the App Drawer to find, so things like calculator, calendar, and Google Drive.

Right Home Screen

This is the Home Screen that I keep a lot more widgets on. My google search bar is at the top of the screen. I use The Weather Channel app for my weather needs and have this widget so that I can easily find the temperature. Remember how I said I love music? I use the Shazaam app to identify music on the radio; I used to use the Verizon application for it, but they removed it so I began using Shazaam and to be honest…I like it more. I like that it comes with this widget button that I can just press and hold to find the song and I don’t have to wait to long for the app to load and possibly miss the song. I also have the assistive light widget, it’s just an off/on button for my flashlight on the phone. Other notable apps include YouTube, Plume for Twitter, and Google+ Hangouts. Kitty Play is the app I use to get themes for my messaging app. I am also currently trying out inhabit (habit tracker) and Viggle (a music application) so I don’t have opinions on that yet.

August Favorites :)

I know this is a little late but I’m still going to one anyway, here is my August Favorites! :)

#1 Tresseme heat Protectant Spray

Since I cut my hair into an angled bob, I can’t just wash and go. It flips weird and curls weird and it just looks bad, not to mention it’s really fluffy after I wash it. Funny story, the second day of Rush week I showered and blow dried my hair not knowing that it wouldn’t be tamed after blow drying, so I had to go impress sororities with fluffy, kind of straightened, kind of flipped out hair. It was terrible. But anyway, I have to straighten my hair after I wash it. I take showers at night, but only wash my hair two or three times a week and so the mornings after I wash my hair, I straighten it. Since I do have to straighten it so much, I don’t want to damage it too much and I feel like this spray helps keep the damage to a minimum.

#2 My tote bag :)

I got this book tote bag on sale from Books-A-Million for 5 Dollars! I wanted a tote bag this semester for days when I only had one class and didn’t need to take my humungous backpack for a notebook, pen, wallet and water bottle. Most tote bags that I found were around 20 to 30 dollars and that was just too much to spend on a tote bag at the time; then my Mom and I just happened to be at the book store like we always are and I saw this for $5 and being an English major and major book lover, I fell in love with it. I’ve used it a couple times already and it fits everything I need to take for a class or two.

#3 Colorful, statement necklaces

This is my favorite of the three that I got, but I got three new colorful statement necklaces to go with my outfits for rush week. I go necklaces that not only went with my outfits, but would also go with other outfits that I have. This is my most worn one because I am still obsessed with coral, so it goes with my pink toms, my favorite nail polish color for summer and a lot of my shirts. The colors are really pretty, and it was on sale at target for 11 dollars. :) Don’t you love sales?

#4 My bed spread

My freshman year of college I got this black and white bedding from this online dorm store and I hated it! It was so boring and bland and just didn’t add any happy, color to my room. My roommate had this colorful bedding that I loved and I was always so jealous of how bright hew side of the room looked compared to how boring mine looked. So this year I got a new bed spread and sheet set and let me just say, coming into my room and seeing the bright colors makes me so happy. It also inspires me to keep my bed made so that I can see the full design :) I got this at Target on sale for 25 dollars. I am on a roll with these sales!

#5 Alpha Xi Delta

Going into Rush I was super nervous about talking to all the sororities, but I also didn't go in with a certain sorority in mind so I wasn't biased. Alpha Xi was the last room I went into night one of rush, and I fell in love with it. When I was called back to them nights 2 and 3 and then received my bid from them I was so excited and happy. All the girls are so sweet and accepting. The events that I have gone to so far have been so fun and I’m so excited to spend the next few years with these girls!

Top 5 Favorite Lip Products

Hello everyone, today I am going to tell you guys about my top 5 favorite lip products. I must say that lip products are probably my favorite make-up products. I love how having something on your lips can complete your look and take a look from day to night. I have a range of drugstore brands and one higher end lipstick. So let us get started!

P.S. These are not in any particular order!

#1) MAC’s lipstick in Brave

This is my all-time favorite, it’s a Satin finish so it’s semi-matte but not drying. It is the perfect nude/my lips but better color. Nudes that are too brown don’t look good on me nor do nudes that are too light of a pink and I just think that this is the best pinky nude for me. I’m almost out though and I don’t know when I’m going to be able to afford another :( but I will get another eventually!

#2) Revlon Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie

This is my favorite color in fall/winter! I love berry colors on me and this is like a deep magenta berry color and I love it. I sometimes pair it over MAC’s Amorous which is a Satin finish. I pat Amorous on then layer this lip butter over it so it’s a little deeper and lasts longer. I love the lip butters in general though. They have a lot of color payoff, have a little sheen, aren’t sticky and are at a decent price range. I have 4 and plan on buying more in the future!

#3) Rimmel London Kate Moss lipstick in 10

I’m not a big fan of red lipsticks, to be honest, I’m kind of afraid of them! They are really bold and if they aren’t done right can bleed and just look horrible, or get on your teeth…or a combination! Eek, that’s enough to steer someone away from wearing red. However, I do try sometimes and when I do this is my favorite red. It’s a true red so I think it looks good on many people and it is almost matte. I wore it to prom and it looked great!

#4) Maybelline Colorstay Vivids in Electric Orange

Orange, like red, can be scary to wear cause come on. It’s orange! But sometimes an outfit calls for an orange-y lip. I have some of those outfits and this is the lipstick I choose when I want orange. Sometimes I will layer it over a pinky lipstick or put a pink lipstick over it to tone down the orange and make it more peachy. But it is a very, very bright orange but perfect for when orange is the goal.

#5) Covergirl Lip Perfection in blush

For me, this is the best pink. Sometimes pink can feel too frosty and make me look terrible, or the pink is too dark and just doesn’t look like pink. I wear this all the time in the spring and summer. This is a perfect pink! I love it, I got it for prom my senior year and it was perfect and quickly became my favorite pink to wear. It also pairs perfectly with Revlon’s Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake. I also have berry twist (yes another berry color.) These are so easy to use and are great for on the go because you don’t necessarily need a mirror to apply. I always have this or the berry one in my purse.

July Favorites

     July is already over, I can’t believe it. Summer is already over. My baby brother starts his first day of Kindergarten soon (!) and then in a couple weeks I go back to school for my sophomore year of college. Time just flies by.

     This is my first ever favorites post so it may not be the best but hey, you don’t learn if you don’t practice 

1) Make-up Favorite: Covergirl Outlast 3-in-1 foundation in 825 buff beige. I was skeptical to buy this product at first because I heard that it oxidizes terribly and that it caused break outs on some people. But I heard so many other good reviews that I gave in and decided to buy it and I must say I love it. It kind of reminds me of Revlon Colorstay, which unfortunately breaks me out extremely bad, but the Covergirl doesn’t break me out! It has great staying power and doesn’t get oily until the end of the day (unless it’s very hot and humid, but even then it is not that bad) and I don’t use a setting powder or spray most of the time, I only use a primer under this foundation. This is now my top favorite foundation J

2) Skin Care Favorite: Garnier Moisture-Rescue gel cream in the original formula. I have used this for probably two years and have gone through about four or five bottles of this (it lasts forever) and have also tried the dry-skin version (didn’t like it as much but it’s still good) but after trying out other face moisturizers and being in the sun all the time, I have really noticed how much I really love this moisturizer. It does not leave me that greasy, oily feeling after applying that many face lotions do and it absorbs almost instantly (which I love), it has never caused me to break out which is important since I have acne prone skin. I have also noticed my skin is noticeably softer and has no dry patches when I use this. The only downside is that it does not have SPF, which sucks, but I have yet to find a face lotion with SPF that does not break me out and turn my face into a frying pan.

4) Hair Product Favorite: Coconut Oil. My mom got me this one from Wal-Mart and I use it as a deep conditioner for my hair, a body lotion, and an after-shave skin soother/moisturizer. It smells great, like a tropical coconut.  I love that it is super moisturizing; I’ve noticed great improvements in my hair texture and look when I use it and it makes my legs super soft after I shave. I don’t have much to say about this one, but trust me. It works wonders. I haven’t cooked with it yet, I may have to try to though.

5) Favorite Book: “The Ocean at the End of the Lane” by Neil Gaiman. I loved this book, it was a very quick read but was very memorable. It follows the narrator as he remembers a scary, strange time of his childhood. It was a great example of how children perceive the world and how adults may not see things the same way as well as the frustrations you feel as a child not being able to control your life.  I honestly don’t know what I was expecting out of this book, but since I enjoyed “The Graveyard Book” by the same author I figured I would like this one and I did. It was an interesting almost fantasy style novel with otherworldly, creepy beings and interesting places. I really recommend this book.

6) Favorite Song One Ocean by Chevelle from their new album La Gargola. I absolutely love it, the whole album is amazing and is one of their best if not their best album and this is my favorite song off of the album. I love them all but this one just mesmerizes me. The first time I heard it I knew it would be my favorite, but I can’t describe my love for it. It’s relaxing and reminds me of the ocean and I can just visualize waves when listening to this song. It’s just amazing.

7) Favorite Show: Orange Is the New Black! I didn’t think I would like it but then one day my boyfriend and I decided to give it a chance and it quickly became one of my favorite shows. If you don’t already know it’s about life in a women’s prison and how these women get through their time. It’s interesting, funny and drama-filled. We binge watched the first 2 seasons of the show and I was sad to finish the second season because now I have to wait till next year for season 3, ugh! I highly recommend this show, unless you’re offended by nudity, language or same-sex relationships.
